Battalion initially had a dual role to train boys between 16 and 18 and provide guards for vulnerable points which released trained soldiers for other duties. |

By February 1941, Battalion was providing companies to guard airfields in Kent at West Malling, Detling, Gravesend and Biggin Hill. One company was based at Shirley Hall, Tunbridge Wells. |
