Unit Notes

In 1853, a Militia Battalion was raised at Macclesfield as 2 Royal Cheshire Militia |
2 |
In July 1881, was designated 4 Battalion The Cheshire Regiment |
3 |
In July 1908, it was disbanded and replaced as 4 Battalion The Cheshire Regiment by 1 Volunteer Battalion The Cheshire Regiment (see below) |

Frederick has the Militita Battalion (4 The Cheshire Regiment) disbanding on 31 July 1908 which seems a little odd given that a new 4 Battalion was formed on 1 April 1908 (so there were two battalions with the same number for four months). Therefore, to make matters clear, I have dated the disbandment of the Militia Battalion as 31 March 1908. |
