There were many changes prior to that as for some time, the HQ functions of 2 AIF were carried out by HQ 6 Australian Infantry Division (while in Australia) and possibly also HQ 7 Australian Infantry Division |

The actual date of conversion to 1 Australian Army was 15 April 1942, but the date gazetted was 6 April 1942. Ditto for the conversion of Southern Command to I Australian Corps. |
